Introduction

The oil and gas industry is one of the most hazardous sectors globally, requiring rigorous application of safety regulations and proactive risk management. This 12-day intensive training program, designed by Global Horizon Training Center, equips safety officers, engineers, supervisors, and frontline workers with the critical knowledge and practical tools to ensure compliance with OSHA standards specifically applicable to upstream, midstream, and downstream operations. The program integrates OSHA regulations (CFR 1910 & 1926), industry best practices, and case-based learning for a complete understanding of health and safety management in the oil and gas environment.

Day 2: Hazard Communication (HAZCOM) and Chemical Safety

  • OSHA HAZCOM standard (29 CFR 1910.1200)

  • Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and labeling

  • GHS classification system

  • Worker right-to-know programs

Day 3: Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)

  • OSHA PPE requirements and hierarchy of controls

  • Selection and use of flame-resistant clothing, respiratory protection, hearing, and eye protection

  • Fit testing and maintenance procedures

  • PPE hazard assessments

Day 4: Confined Space Entry in Oil & Gas Sites

  • Permit-required confined spaces (PRCS)

  • Entry procedures, atmospheric testing

  • Roles: Entrant, Attendant, Supervisor

  • Rescue planning and compliance documentation

Day 5: Fall Protection and Working at Heights

  • OSHA fall protection regulations (1910.28 & 1926.501)

  • Guardrails, harnesses, lifelines, and anchors

  • Scaffolds, ladders, derricks, and rig floors

  • Rescue techniques and fall hazard assessments

Day 6: Electrical and Fire Safety

  • Electrical safety standards (LOTO, arc flash, grounding)

  • Hazardous area classification (Zone 0, 1, 2)

  • Fire triangle and fire watch responsibilities

  • Hot work permits and fire suppression systems

Day 7: Process Safety Management (PSM) for Oil & Gas

  • OSHA PSM standard (29 CFR 1910.119)

  • Elements of a PSM program

  • Mechanical integrity and MOC (Management of Change)

  • Process hazard analysis (PHA)

Day 8: Rig Safety, Well Control, and Drilling Operations

  • Hazards specific to rotary rigs, BOPs, and wellheads

  • Blowout prevention and pressure control

  • Safety in hoisting, rotating equipment, and mud systems

  • Industry standards: API, IADC safety practices

Day 9: Material Handling, Cranes, and Lifting Safety

  • OSHA standards for crane and hoist operations

  • Rigging equipment inspection and use

  • Manual handling and back injury prevention

  • Dropped objects prevention

Day 10: Emergency Response Planning and Spill Control

  • Emergency action plans (EAPs) and OSHA requirements

  • Fire, explosion, and gas release response

  • Spill response, containment, and reporting

  • Coordination with local authorities and drills

Day 11: Incident Investigation, Root Cause Analysis, and Reporting

  • OSHA recordkeeping (Forms 300, 300A, 301)

  • Near-miss and injury investigation

  • Root cause analysis tools: 5 Whys, Fishbone, TapRooT

  • Developing corrective and preventive actions (CAPA)

Day 12: Final Workshop: Building a Site-Specific OSHA Compliance Plan

  • Group project: Identify hazards and develop a compliance matrix

  • Conduct mock OSHA inspection

  • Build a safety audit and training checklist
