Day 1: Introduction & Structured Cabling Fundamentals

Theory:

  • Introduction to structured cabling and its importance
  • Network overview: what is a network, characteristics, resource sharing
  • Cable media types, categories, and topologies
  • LAN hardware: PCs, switches, routers
  • National and international standards (ISO, CENELEC, TIA/EIA)

Practical:

  • Interpreting cabling drawings
  • Risk evaluation for installation
  • Preparing tools and equipment

Day 2: Installation Principles & Signal Theory

Theory:

  • Installing structured cabling: containment routes and work environment
  • Electrical principles, DC current, analog vs. digital signals
  • Health & safety: legislation, electrical safety, working at heights/confined spaces
  • Fire safety: fire stopping, CPR compliance

Practical:

  • Cable installation and proper handling
  • Patch cord manufacturing
  • Cable routing in containment systems

Day 3: Termination & Testing Basics

Theory:

  • Copper cable termination types: UTP/STP
  • Patch panels, outlets, and wall jacks
  • Documentation, labeling, and record keeping
  • Testing fundamentals: continuity, certification, and acceptance testing

Practical:

  • Cable termination on patch panels and outlets
  • Using test equipment to verify connectivity
  • Creating and documenting cabling records

Day 4: Advanced Testing & Certification

Theory:

  • Level IV testing requirements
  • Fluke CCTT Copper Certification (DSX)
  • Interpreting test results and troubleshooting
  • Overview of HDTDX and HDTDR testing

Practical:

  • Setting up DSX and performing tests
  • Troubleshooting faults in installed cables
  • Conducting Level IV certification tests and documenting results

Day 5: Integration, Troubleshooting & Project Simulation

Theory:

  • Review of all standards and installation practices
  • Quality control and ensuring compliance with client/project requirements
  • Overview of common faults and corrective measures

Practical:

  • Simulated project: install, terminate, test, and certify a copper network segment
  • Conduct end-to-end testing and validation
  • Troubleshoot, adjust, and finalize project documentation
  • Final assessment and review
