Introduction

The BGAS Grade 2 Coating Inspector training program is designed by Global Horizon Training Center to prepare professionals for the role of site coating inspectors in accordance with British Gas Approval Scheme (BGAS) standards. This intensive program provides the foundational technical knowledge and practical inspection skills required for coating inspection in oil, gas, and industrial projects. Participants will gain an in-depth understanding of surface preparation, coating application, relevant standards, defect identification, and inspection techniques. The course also prepares participants to sit for the BGAS-CSWIP Grade 2 certification exam.

  • Surface cleanliness standards (ISO 8501, SSPC-SP)

  • Environmental conditions and surface testing

Day 3: Coating Application & Defect Identification

  • Application methods (brush, roller, airless spray)

  • Dry film thickness (DFT) and wet film thickness (WFT) measurements

  • Common defects: holidays, blistering, cracking, pinholes

  • Coating failures and root causes

  • Introduction to inspection tools and instruments

Day 4: Inspection Procedures & Reporting

  • Inspection test plans and checklists

  • Visual inspection techniques

  • Use of gauges: DFT, WFT, dew point meters

  • Report writing and documentation

  • Case studies and examples of coating failures

Day 5: Exam Preparation & Practical Assessments

  • Mock written test aligned with BGAS-CSWIP format

  • Practical inspection exercises

  • Review of key topics and Q&A
